Our Impact
For over a decade, the Women Advancement Organization (WAO) has stood at the forefront of social change in South Sudan. Since our founding in 2012, we have worked tirelessly to transform the lives of vulnerable women, out-of-school youth, and people living with disabilities. Through hands-on training in life skills, alternative education systems, and technical and vocational programs, we are not just teaching — we are empowering.
What we do
The Women Advancement Organization (WAO) works at the grassroots and policy levels to create lasting change for marginalized groups in South Sudan. Our work is built on three core pillars:
We Find & Fund
We actively seek out vulnerable women and out-of-school youth across South Sudan who are being left behind. Through partnerships and donor support, we fund life skills training, alternative education systems, and technical and vocational programs — ensuring that lack of resources is never a barrier to opportunity.
We Provide Care
Empowerment goes beyond skills — it requires a supportive hand at every stage. We provide mentorship, psychosocial support, and safe spaces where marginalized groups, including people living with disabilities, can rebuild confidence and dignity. Our team walks with each individual as if they were our own family.
We Educate
We run accessible education programs for those excluded from formal systems — including children of daily wage workers, displaced families, and out-of-school youth. Our alternative education systems and vocational training equip learners with real-world knowledge, from basic literacy to marketable trades.
We We Employ & Empower
Through advocacy and direct partnerships, we work to remove barriers that prevent women, youth, and persons with disabilities from accessing decent work. We connect trained individuals to employment opportunities and self-employment pathways — helping them live their dreams and support their families with pride.
Our numbers that speak
Every number represents a woman whose life has been transformed through education, mentorship, and opportunity. We’re proud of how far we’ve come – but we’re just getting started.
